What Books Brought You Joy

Reading is one of my biggest joys in life. I like being transported to other worlds. I read about 500 books a year. All, or most of them, are in the romance genre because HEAs are my jam. I thought I’d share a few of my favorites with y’all.

Books to reread – I don’t do many rereads, but there are a few

Island of the Blue Dolphins by Scott O’Dell. In the Pacific there is an island that looks like a big fish sunning itself in the sea. Around it, blue dolphins swim, otters play, and sea elephants and sea birds abound. Once, Indians also lived on the island. And when they left and sailed to the east, one young girl was left behind. It was the first book that really got me hooked on reading. I started reading early and loved it, but that one made me want to reread it over and over, and gave me some room to explore other genres.

The Door to December by Dean Koontz was the first book I read in the horror genre that wasn’t Stephen King. Little Melanie had been kidnapped when she was only three. She was nine when she was found wandering the L.A. streets, with blank eyes. The storyline follows a parent trying to save their child from some seriously creepy things. The weirdness of the different things they encountered insured a reread, or three, was necessary to catch it all. I’ve probably reread this one more than any other book. I still catch new things with every read

The Madison Kate Series by Tate James follows Madison Kate and her men through a series of troubles that include fights, gangs, shootings, and more. HATE is a full-length mature college/new adult romance with enemies-to-lovers/love-hate themes. This is a reverse harem novel, meaning the main character has more than one love. I have reread the entire series once. The amount of love and violence speaks to me. I just enjoy it so much!

I’ve also reread most of The Five Points’ Mob Collection by Serena Akeroyd, as well as Dark and Dirty Sinners’ MC by Serena Akeroyd. These series interconnect. This is another group of books that I just really enjoy.

Other books that brought me joy

Flower Moon Rising by Quinn Arthurs deals with some pretty deep mental health issues within a beautiful story of love. This book contains the passage that spoke to me more than any other I have ever read. As someone who lost a loved one to suicide, it is always a bit of a trigger for me. I always read the books anyway, and only stop if I have to. But this book gave me a new way to think about things. I often go back to that passage and read it as a reminder to myself. It reminds me of how my brother might have been feeling. It gives me some relief from the guilt I often feel when my pain tries to drown me. And it offers me a reason to keep reaching out for those who are there experiencing the same.

The Godhunter Series by Amy Sumida makes its way onto this list simply by being the series that brought me to the reverse harem (why choose) genre.
