With all the crap that has been thrown at my family in the last few months, I needed to find a way to make money that wouldn’t mess with the kids’ schedules.

I decided to start doing deliveries. I can mostly do it on my schedule and might not make a lot of money, but it is bringing in some.

That being said, the company I deliver for has some pluses and some minuses.

I appreciate how well they can set up my deliveries to be on one route that is easy to follow. They offer me the bonus of being at the front of the line because I’m new and because I’m always on time or early.

Yesterday, they were offering a bonus based on accepting and completing a certain amount of orders. Then, with just over an hour and a half left on my shift, they sent me 30 minutes away from my delivery area. Because it was so far outside of my area, they didn’t offer me any other offers until I was able to make it back to my area. This caused me to not be able to hit that order streak. It was super frustrating. If I hadn’t been sent that far away, I would have easily been able to hit that streak. I only needed three more orders.

The temperature here today was below zero all day. I figured it was a good day to go out and deliver. I was right. I made some good money. I hit that order streak. Then, with only 20 minutes left in my shift, I accepted an order. I don’t get to see where the delivery is going until after I have picked it up. They sent me 35 minutes away, and even further than that from home. Not a huge deal, but a bit exhausting.

I thought I was on my way to the grocery store and home. Instead, I was on my way three cities over. It was a rough end to my day. This caused me to be too late to start the dinner I had planned for tonight.

Overall, it has been a good thing. It’s nice to feel productive again. I’m enjoying bringing in some income while we get back on our feet. I will likely keep doing it occasionally, even after things get settled.

Do you have a side hustle? Something that brings in a little bit of money. Are you a delivery driver? If so, what is your favorite part of the job?
