Ah, the joy of unexpected snow days! As the world outside turned into a winter wonderland, I found myself cozied up at home with a hot cup of cocoa, my phone in hand, and Amazon on the computer. Rather than venturing out into the cold, I embarked on a delightful adventure of “window” shopping with my oldest child, creating a unique bonding experience without leaving the warmth of our home.
The original plan included a drive to pick up my oldest and run them back to town to deposit their paycheck. It was the first check from their new job, and they needed it cashed so that they could pay rent.
Unfortunately, Colorado weather disagreed with our plans. It rained until about 9:30 this morning, then turned to heavy, wet snow. My middle kid had Saturday school, so I had to pick her up at 10:15. It quickly became clear that the roads were slick, and that visibility was very low. This led to changing the rest of the day’s plans. Instead of spending the day running around, I’d spend the day reading, painting, and working.

That plan didn’t work out either. And I am more than okay with that. My oldest called for some banking help. Once we’d worked through that, to the best of our ability, we just chatted. They decided to check Amazon for some clothing ideas for her sister, so they sent me some links to show her.
From there, we started exchanging links to different things we liked. I eventually moved to the computer and put them on speakerphone.
We spent the next 3.5 hours exchanging links, talking about the different things we were looking for and finding, and creating our personal wish lists. We looked at everything. Clothes, decor, accessories, car stuff. Nothing was off limits.
My list is mostly paint and business supplies. I found some great discussion starters and affirmation cards to help me with my business. I also found a couple of emergency supplies for my car. My two favorite finds are scrunchy socks (yes, I’m that girl), and a sand art stand.

It was really great to spend time with my kid, even though we didn’t get to see each other today. They, and we as a family, have had an extremely rough week. The time together, even virtually, gave them the calm and company that they were craving for today.
As the snow continued to blanket the world outside, my heart was warmed by the simple joy of spending a snow day “window” shopping with my oldest. It’s a reminder that connection knows no distance, and even in the digital age, creating cherished memories with loved ones is just a click away. Here’s to more cozy snow days and the warmth of sharing special moments, whether in person or through the screen.
