What advice would you give to your teenage self?

Dear Teenage Me,

If I could go back in time and offer you some advice, there are two key things I wish I had known then. Firstly, your dad’s behavior may be hurtful, frustrating and usually painful, but he’s not the root cause of all your problems. It’s easy to blame him for everything, but it’s important to realize that life’s challenges often stem from a variety of factors, not just one person’s actions.

Secondly, when it comes to money, don’t give your mom any of your paycheck. Instead, take charge of your finances and pay the bills yourself. While it might seem like you’re helping out, it’s essential to prioritize your financial independence and responsibility. By managing your own money, you’ll gain valuable life skills and set yourself up for a more secure future. Plus, all the money you’re giving her is just going to feed her drug habit. You and your brother will be much better off if you’re paying those bills.

Remember, teenage years can be tough, but you’re stronger and more resilient than you realize. Keep pushing forward, stay true to yourself, and never stop learning and growing.

With love and hindsight,

Emily
