You pull up to your kid middle school for pick up from after school activities and find a fire truck, an ambulance, three district officers, and four city police vehicles.
What do you do?
Me?
I go around the block so I can park further away. I text my kid. I begin having a panic attack when she doesn’t respond. I get out of the car and start walking to the school.
Then, in my panic, I accidentally call my kid instead of my husband. I learn what is most important to me, which is that my kid, and the rest of the theater kids, are ok.
Whatever this mess is, my kid isn’t involved.
Once I knew she wasn’t involved, I was able to pull myself back together. I found another theater parent. Her student had skipped out of rehearsal early to watch the high school basketball game.
A fight broke out on the basketball court. I didn’t get much more information than that.
I did overhear another parent talking on her phone about an adult hitting her child.
Without more information to go on, I can report that the ambulance and fire personal left without anyone. I did not see if the police that were in the parking lot took anyone with them.
Things clamed down, students that were leaving didn’t seem too shook up. I’m hoping that it wasn’t too bad. Although, I am super unhappy if adults were putting hands on children.
So, what do you do in my situation? How do you handle it?
