The dancer is now the theater nerd. Let’s be honest, he’s both. And we all saw it coming.

Dance

Instead of taking dance classes, he’s teaching them. He really enjoys teaching the younger kids. Currently, he is teaching a ballet/tap combo class and a hip hop class. I think being given the hip hop class to help has really made his soul sing.

Unfortunately, when he stopped dancing in May, he started using his hip hop shoes as everyday shoes. Guess what that means? He needs a new pair of Converse. Not what I need in this economy, but it is what it is. Now, normally, I’d be off to the mall to pick them up. However, I didn’t have the time or the finances to make a trip to the mall. Luckily, I was able to find a pair on Amazon for a bit cheaper, and best of all – no mall trip for this mama. Here is a link to the ones I found. Heads up that I do earn a small commission if you decide to buy from this link.

Just an aside, I hate our local mall. It is full of super rich people stores, and you have to pay for parking. No thank you!

He is also taking dance as his gym credit and has joined the dance team at school! This gives him a leg up on college applications, and keeps the dancer in him happy.

He was just telling me yesterday that he and his partner are almost finished choreographing their partner dance for recital.

Theater

This kid! He did every show possible in middle school. Every single one. And loved every minute of it.

He is taking theater in school, and loving that too.

The big, exciting news though, is that he tried out for a play/musical at a theater company! Not only did he audition, but he was given the role he really wanted. It is a big role with a lot of singing, and not much time off stage.

This is a big deal in our house. We do our best to help all of our kids chase their passions. Even when they change them on a dime, keeping us on our toes.

Did you know that you need a pair of jazz shoes for theater? Yeah, me neither. Although, I suppose I should have guessed. And since the kid is in dance at school, he has his there. Meaning, he needed another pair for theater. FFS, can’t a mom catch a break? The good news is that the ones for theater don’t need to be the fancy ones that I’d have to run to the dance store for. Don’t get me wrong, I love the people there. But it’s like a 35 minute drive each way, and it costs so much.

Once again, Amazon came in clutch.

Yeah, yeah, I know… another affiliate link. I would apologize, but a girl has gotta do what a girl has gotta do. And this girl needs as many income streams as possible. That means I gotta stick a link or two in a blog post or two and try to make a little money. Dance and theater are expensive.

Anyway – here’s the link for the jazz shoes I ended up getting him. They work just as well as his others and he has no complaints about fit, style, or usability.

Italy/Rome & Germany

As if this kid isn’t busy enough, he is also working towards a trip with his school in a couple of years. And, yes, we’re already paying for it, and looking at fundraising idea. That isn’t something I’m doing here, it just is. I know he is excited about the trip and is looking for ways to make money to pay for it.

Closing Out – Do I Ever Shut Up?

His dad and I are excited for the kid and all the things he has going on. Sometimes I get tired just thinking about it, and I’m mostly just transportation.

Neither of my other kids ever wanted to or did so much. I guess they saved it all for the youngest or something.

What new and exciting things are happening in your world?
