Daily writing prompt
What is something you wish you could tell your 20-year-old self?

“Your kids are AMAZING and completely worth it. But don’t give up working, and keep at least some money separate and untouched. You will need it.”

I’ve given up all autonomy in the last 23 years. I’m a SAHM, and I love being available to do all the things for my kids. However, that means I haven’t worked in 15 years. I’ve done some odd jobs here and there, and did an MLM for quite a few of those years. None of those things brought in any real money or worked much for my resume.

I dropped out of college 17 years ago because my oldest, and only at the time, needed many appointments and constant supervision. That doesn’t work with the husband working and me in school. So, I now have $28,000 in student loan debt and not a thing to show for it.

To sum it up, I only have my husband’s money to rely on, no job history over 15+ years to fall back on, and no savings to help me out.

My kids make everything I’ve been through worth it. I wouldn’t want a world without them. But I sure do wish I had a steady income of my own. Some way of not feeling stuck.

So yeah, 20-year-old me needs to follow through, but skip college, and keep working!
