Daily writing prompt
How do significant life events or the passage of time influence your perspective on life?

My brother’s suicide changed a lot of things in my life.

I became more anxious. I stopped enjoying many different activities. I became even more introverted.

I also started volunteering with the Colorado Chapter of American Foundation of Suicide Prevention. I shared my story to help others.

I learned that life’s too short. I apply that to most interactions I have with the people in my world. Life is too short to stay mad over the little things. Life is too short to keep toxicity in my life. Life is too short to not say those words you keep holding back.

You never know when someone’s time will come. Make sure that the words you say are one’s you can live with. The words you utter might be the last thing you say to someone.

The last words I said to my brother are one’s I wish I could forget.

My perspective on life changed December 12, 2007. It changed who I am as a person. I now know that those I love can be gone in a moment of time. I knew it before, but really only experienced the loss of those who had lived a long life.

Always say goodbye, tell those close to you that you love them. Let go of the anger, it doesn’t serve you. Walk away from those who hold you down, you deserve better.
